IMEG provided structural engineering design services for the LEED Silver, 800,000-sf, seven-story, new civil and criminal courthouse. The Clerk of the Court’s offices occupy the first floor and part of the second floor; the remainder of the second floor contains the jury selection room, cafeteria, and family courtrooms. The juvenile, family, civil, and criminal courtrooms occupy the third through sixth floors, and the top floor is dedicated to the judges’ chambers and hearing rooms. The courtrooms and judges from Duval County and the Fourth Judicial Circuit Court are located in the Duval County Courthouse.

The structural system of the building consists of poured-in- place concrete joists, beams, and columns, supported on an auger cast pile foundation system. The lateral loads imposed on the building are primarily carried by the building’s concrete shear walls.

IMEG generated the engineering drawings from ACAD following the architect’s lead. However, IMEG was retained by the contractor prior to the construction of the project
to create a 3-D Revit model of the building’s structure in consideration of the value of virtual interdisciplinary coordination and conflict identification.
