New Marion Public Library wins energy design award, will open in November
The Marion, Iowa, public library was named a 2022 Excellence in Energy-Effiicient Design Award winner in Alliant Energy’s Commercial New Construction Program. The program recognizes new construction projects with outstanding efforts to reduce energy use. The library opened Nov. 10, 2022.
The $18 million, 52,000-sf library has a 41 percent annual energy savings compared to code even though it is twice the size of the former library, which was extensively damaged in the August 2020 derecho and never reopened. The new building can accommodate the city’s growing population and is designed to be an adaptable, flexible, community hub. The space includes areas for children, youth, and adults, a reading area with a floor-to-ceiling fireplace and self-serve coffee station, meeting rooms, demonstration kitchen, recording studio, “green screen” video room, and gaming spaces.
IMEG provided MEP and technology design and commissioning services for the project as a subconsultant for Engberg Anderson Architects of Chicago.
