Surgical Suite Renovation and Expansion
IMEG provided engineering design and services for a renovation and expansion of the surgical suite at Mayo Clinic Health System’s Mankato Hospital. The $41 million project provides 52,000-sf of state-of-the-art surgical, post and pre-operation, sterilization processing, gastrointestinal clinic, and necessary building services.
Engineers provided MEP design for the project, which included completing the shell of a 30,000-sf OR space while the building’s existing OR was remodeled. The phased design approach allowed the hospital to remain fully operational throughout construction. A new HVAC system served the areas under construction; once the addition and remodeled ORs were completed, all spaces were connected to one redesigned HVAC system.
Construction phasing, including HVAC, also allowed the sterilization processing and post- and pre-operation rooms to remain operational throughout their remodel and 22,500-sf expansion.
The design also included a second-story, 15,000-sf addition to house a gastrointestinal clinic. Back-of-house upgrades provided a new chiller, boiler, generator, and medical gas equipment.
