Stadium Expansion and Renovation
Memorial Stadium was dedicated in October 1924 and has seen little change throughout its history. It was the last of the Big Ten conference venues to undergo any type of major renovation. A mixture of Georgian Revival and Neoclassical architecture, the structure is considered one of the nation’s most distinctive sports stadiums.
IMEG served as mechanical and electrical consultant for a master plan / feasibility study followed by full engineering design and construction services to renovate the stadium. A primary focus of this project was on investigating potential architectural and mechanical upgrades, remodelings, additions and improvements to be implemented in multiple phases.
This project added amenities to improve the experience for attendees during football games. Major elements of the renovation included:
- Addition of a three-level press / broadcast box, security lounge, 200 indoor club seats, and approximately 45 climate-controlled suites, and outdoor seating
- Restroom facilities
- Concession spaces including a full-service catering kitchen
- New lighting and controls
