The nationally renowned Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia embarked on a series of projects beginning with a master plan and continuing through execution of the resulting vision culminating in $650 million of construction.

IMEG provided structural engineering design services for Phases I and II of the project. Phase I, the 10-story South Patient Tower, features 332,000-sf of new patient facilities and interior renovations to the steel frame structure, including the expansion of the emergency department. The project involves vertical expansions and connections to existing buildings and the reconfiguration and expansion of an existing below-grade parking structure.

Phase II consists of two buildings, the nine-story Southwest Tower and the 12-story Northwest Tower, totaling 460,000-sf. Both feature complex transfer trusses and connections to the existing structure. The Northwest Tower has seven floors suspended from trusses located in the upper floor mechanical level.
