Renovated Book Depository reopens as Newlab’s Detroit headquarters
The Book Depository in Detroit, vacant since 1987, has been renovated and reopened as Newlab’s Detroit headquarters.
It’s the first phase of renovation for the Michigan Central Station property, a Detroit railway station Ford Motor Company bought in 2018. The 273,240-sf Book Depository, designed by Albert Kahn in 1936, had previously served as a post office and book storage for Detroit Public Schools.
IMEG provided structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, technology, and acoustical engineering design and architectural lighting for the project, as a subconsultant to Gensler.
