Susan Wisler, PE, LEED AP, MCPPO, a client executive with IMEG’s Boston office, grew up in a military family.

“Science and math are something that doesn’t change,” she said. “It was easier going from school to school, understanding science and math.”

Wisler earned a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering (the constant movement of mechanical engineering intrigued her) from the University of New Mexico in 1992. She thought she’d get into mechanics, but an internship with a consultancy engineering company led to a job offer. She joined Architectural Engineers, Inc., now IMEG, in 2005, and has worked on mechanical, plumbing, and fire protection systems design for complex construction and renovation projects. She is now client executive and principal-in-charge, running the Boston office.

Sustainability is a core value for her, and she built an MEP team with similar values. Other core goals include improving air quality. Her team works on various projects including historic rehabilitation, new construction and retrofits of schools, prisons, and courthouses.

Her job is management-focused now. That plays into another strength–her ability to talk to people in plain terms.

“Susan’s greatest strength is her ability to take a step back and see the big picture,” said Jon Brenton, PE, LEED AP BD+C, who started at AEI, now IMEG, as an intern and is now a project executive. “It is so easy for young engineers to spend their time fighting with a design or engaging in endless back and forth. Having a mentor that can thoughtfully redirect your efforts while still providing autonomy is so important. She was instrumental in my development as an engineer and manager.”
