IMEG structural project wins national DBIA Merit Award
RiverSouth in Austin, TX, has received a 2023 National Design-Build Project/Team Merit Award from the Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA). IMEG provided structural design for the office tower, a 15-story, 350,000-sf high rise that was completed in 2021.
According to Texas Contractor magazine, RiverSouth is the first major project developed to align with Austin’s South-Central Waterfront Vision Framework. It helps connect various corridors and contributes to the development of a network of green streets, parks, trails, public spaces, and affordable housing.
Due to height restrictions, the design included five basement levels for underground parking to meet the owner’s program requirements within the limitations. The building also is located near a lake, so the structural engineers designed diaphragm walls for the permanent retention system, which acted as cutoff walls for keeping water out during construction and as permanent foundation elements.
RiverSouth and other Merit Award winners will now compete for the National Award of Excellence, “Best of” categories, and Project of the Year, which will be announced at DBIA’s Design-Build Conference & Expo Awards Ceremony Nov. 2.
