Indoor Ski and Snowboarding Center
The project: Provide the infrastructure needed for the fit-out of an indoor ski and snowboarding training center within a space previously occupied by a department store.
The goal: Create a Snobahn facility on the north side of Denver that is larger than the original facility in Centennial, which is located on the southern side of town.
Project amenities: The new Snobahn facility in Thornton features an indoor ski/snowboard park, skate park, trampolines, café/bar area, second-level mezzanine with party rooms, ski/snowboard service, and a private office.
Design approach: IMEG worked directly with the owner and owner’s representative to support specialty equipment such as indoor ski slopes and skate ramps. The ski slopes also required coordination with the German manufacturer via phone and web conferences at off hours due to the time difference. IMEG also worked closely with the food service consultant to develop the plan and provide recommendations for the café/bar area on the first floor.
Challenge: Increased cooling load within the space. Solution: To avoid additional rooftop HVAC equipment, IMEG implemented high-volume, low-speed (HVLS) industrial ceiling fans to facilitate increased air movement and occupant comfort in the space.
Project outcome: The space is more than twice the footprint of the original Snobahn and provides an accessible, affordable, and efficient place for people to learn how to ski and snowboard and partake in other indoor recreational activities.
