Little Caesars Arena, a 650,000-sf multi-purpose venue, serves as the home for both the NHL’s Detroit Red Wings and the NBA’s Detroit Pistons. IMEG’s lighting design team, Illuminating Concepts, played a pivotal role in elevating the fan experience through innovative and dynamic lighting applications throughout the arena.

One of the standout features is the arena’s main concourse, where a striking “jewel skin” of faceted aluminum panels wraps the seating bowl. These panels are elegantly grazed with vibrant color, thanks to precisely placed optic linear LED fixtures that bring a modern, energetic feel to the space. The jewel skin not only serves as an architectural marvel but also doubles as a video projection surface, displaying event footage, advertisements, and branded content that immerses fans in the action.

Above the seating bowl, the tension wire grid ceiling is a dynamic focal point, designed to interact with the crowd in real-time. The ceiling is programmed with colored theatrical show lighting and can display video content, enhancing the atmosphere during games and live events. This lighting system adds another layer of excitement, creating moments of spectacle that engage fans throughout the arena.

On the exterior, the bowl’s jewel skin rims the arena’s façade, illuminated with linear RGBW fixtures that allow for a full spectrum of color possibilities. The lighting is synchronized to create an interactive 360° light show that responds to every goal and home team victory, amplifying the energy of the crowd and making the arena a visual beacon in downtown Detroit. Additionally, RGBW floodlights illuminate the surrounding plaza, setting the stage for outdoor concerts and pre-game entertainment, further enhancing the arena’s presence as a dynamic entertainment venue.

Our team’s lighting design seamlessly blends form and function, creating an immersive, vibrant, and ever-changing atmosphere that enhances both the live sports experience and other events at Little Caesars Arena.
