Strategic Mobility & Placemaking Plan

The project: IMEG served as the lead consultant for a community-driven transportation planning and placemaking effort aimed at identifying and addressing challenges and opportunities in the Village Center and along Sprague Road. The project involved developing recommendations to improve placemaking and traffic safety while considering the needs of parking and other community priorities. The team also worked on planning for enhanced bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure.
The goal: The goal of the project was to enhance the Village Center and Sprague Road by improving traffic safety, placemaking, and infrastructure for pedestrians and cyclists. The team aimed to create a welcoming and vibrant community space that would support various activities, including farmers markets, pop-up events, and town gatherings, thereby energizing the area.
Design approach: The design approach consisted of developing concept plans and roadway cross-sections that incorporated improvements for bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure, collecting pedestrian and traffic circulation data using drone technology to analyze patterns, destinations, and delays within the Village Center, conducting community engagement through a walk audit, a design workshop, and seven virtual public meetings, creating visually rich reports and presentations using Lumion 3D rendering software to communicate design ideas to stakeholders, and advising on strategic funding and implementation to bring the design to fruition.
Project outcome: The project successfully generated a comprehensive set of recommendations for improving the Village Center and Sprague Road. These included safer pedestrian and bicycle pathways, better traffic flow, and enhanced public spaces for community events. The conceptual designs fostered a vision of an active, vibrant area that will host local community activities. The team’s community engagement efforts, paired with a detailed implementation strategy, laid the foundation for transforming the space into a dynamic hub for the community.
