Design approach: The design approach of the healthcare campus is to be the “go-to” world-class integrated healthcare destination within the Michigan area with innovative, state-of-the art equipment and technologies. With this in-mind, the Owners encouraged the design and planning committee to “think of the future” when designing and selecting the information technology for the new healthcare campus. The underlying philosophy was that the new healthcare campus would maximize current investments (e.g., Epic/EMR) while enabling a future welcoming and innovating experience leveraging technology.

Challenge: Comprehensively identifying the full scope of technology required to support the new facility and the organizational goals.

Solutions: Smart patient/family journey experience, Artificial Intelligence, Alternative Reality (AR) / Virtual Reality (VR) / Extended Reality (ER), ambient voice recognition (in-room), digital solutions (art, white boards, wayfinding), mobile communications and devices (phones, tablets, etc.) and broad wireless technologies, patient education/entertainment systems, robotics and automated guided vehicles, Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) and Real-Time Location Systems (RTLS), Virtual Care, visitor management, building automation, fire protection, and security, integration design from patient/family/visitor and care team member’s view, all private rooms with technology upgrades and dedicated space for care teams, patients and families.

Project outcome: This project is currently in construction documentation (CD) phase and is estimated to be completed in 2029.
