Emergency Department Expansion and Renovation

IMEG provided structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, technology, and security engineering design services for a 8,500-sf expansion and 21,000-sf renovation of the Emergency Department at the OSF Little Company of Mary Medical Center in Evergreen Park, Illinois.
During design, IMEG worked as a team with general, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and fire protection contractors, meeting weekly to develop the best solutions to meet the medical center’s requirements.
Systems were extended from existing services and LED lighting and controls were used along with low-flow plumbing fixtures.
As a result of phasing, the ability to create a ductwork shaft to serve the remodeled floor was impeded. To solve this challenge, IMEG worked as a team to create an expansion of the basement to allow the ductwork to go up a chase to the floor above. The team temporarily ran approved ductwork outside prior to completing a future phase.
The renovated emergency department allows for a better patient experience and reduced waiting times.
