Ann Arbor Public Schools breaks ground on all-electric, net-zero-ready elementary school

Ann Arbor Public Schools has broken ground on a new all-electric, net-zero-ready elementary school.
Mitchell Elementary will have a structural system that consists of low-carbon concrete, steel, and mass timber, to meet CHPS Verified Leader certification requirements. Other sustainable features include a ground-source geothermal system, rooftop solar PV, central water-to-water heat pumps, demand- controlled ventilation using vacancy overrides to reduce ventilation, all-electric heating and cooling.
The building design will also maximize daylight and prioritize student wellness.
IMEG is providing structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection engineering design, and acoustics and other technology services.
