Courthouse Renovation
The project: Renovation of a nineteenth-century courthouse located at one end of the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial grounds, which recently underwent a major, multi-year renovation through the Gateway Arch Park Foundation.
The goal: Upgrade accessibility and life safety systems, as well as additional infrastructure and system improvements, in accordance with National Park Service sustainability requirements.
Design approach: IMEG worked closely with the National Park Service to phase the project so that the building and exhibits remained open during construction. The project included renovating the exhibit spaces, replacing building systems including facility-wide HVAC and fire alarm/detection systems, security upgrades, restroom additions, window replacements, office space relocation, and elevator access improvements for the second floor library, east courtroom, and upper rotunda. Engineering design services provide by IMEG included mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and technology.
Project outcome: The project improves visitor experience with upgrades and renovations in compliance with the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Historic Preservation and NPS Sustainability Design Standards.
