IMEG’s Parking Consultant Bill Kavanagh, AIA, has authored an article for AIA Philadelphia’s magazine, Context. 

The article, “Parking Garages, A Contrarian Perspective: Can we future-proof these much maligned stalwarts of the built environment?” appears in the Spring 2025 edition.  

In it, he disputes the idea that parking demand will decline because of increases in remote work, the use of ride sharing apps, and autonomous vehicles. He also discusses the technical challenges and cost implications of designing a “future-proofed” free-standing garage that could be adapted to other uses, like housing.  

Bill is IMEG’s Parking Consultant of Distinction and an associate principal of the firm. He is a Certified Parksmart Advisor and a member of the National Parking Association Parking Consultants Council. He has more than 22 years of experience designing parking garages, including underground, podiums in mixed-use buildings, and free-standing models.
