Seismic Rehabilitation (SRGP)
The project: Perform a full seismic retrofit and facility expansion of the City of Seaside’s Main Fire Station to bring the building up
to current emergency response facility standards.
The goal: Upgrade the city’s only fire station to meet modern seismic safety codes, extend its usable life, and improve living and operational spaces while keeping the facility fully functional throughout construction.
Project amenities: The project included the addition of new sleeping quarters and offices above the existing Apparatus Bays, renovation of the upstairs living quarters, and a full replacement of the roofing and HVAC systems. These enhancements improve comfort, safety, and functionality for fire personnel and ensure the station’s continued operation in the event of a seismic emergency.
Design approach: IMEG worked in close partnership with the City of Seaside Fire Department and the Construction Manager/General Contractor to coordinate phased construction efforts while maintaining uninterrupted emergency response operations. With the station remaining operational throughout the retrofit, IMEG’s engineering team played a critical role in sequencing structural improvements to ensure life-safety compliance without compromising the department’s ability to respond to calls.
Project outcome: The completed project brought the City of Seaside Main Fire Station into compliance with current seismic safety codes for essential facilities and significantly improved its functionality for daily operations. With enhanced structural integrity and modernized systems, the station is now prepared to serve the Seaside community for at least another 50 years.
