New Law Enforcement Training Center

The project: The City of Raleigh’s new Law Enforcement Training Center is a state-of-the-art, 60,000-sf, two-story facility designed to support the evolving training needs of the city’s public safety personnel. Strategically connected to an existing building via a breezeway, the new facility consolidates a range of critical training functions under one roof to enhance efficiency, collaboration, and operational readiness.
The goal: The primary goal of the project was to create a modern, adaptable training environment that equips law enforcement professionals with the skills, resources, and technology necessary to serve the Raleigh community effectively. The center needed to support both foundational instruction and advanced tactical preparation, while also aligning with the city’s long-term sustainability and resilience goals.
The design: The facility includes a variety of specialized spaces: basic and in-service training classrooms, physical training areas with locker facilities, reconfigurable scenario rooms, and defensive tactics training spaces. The building was designed with a robust and future-ready technology infrastructure to support remote learning, simulation-based instruction, and immersive, video-rich content. Sustainable design principles guided material selection, construction waste management, and the implementation of high-efficiency mechanical systems.
The outcome: The completed facility has earned multiple accolades, including LEED Gold certification, the Office Magazine Silver Award for Law Enforcement Training Facilities, and the Carolinas Green Gala Community Leader Award for Best Building Design + Construction Project. The training center now stands as a model for public safety infrastructure—balancing function, innovation, and sustainability to meet the needs of Raleigh’s law enforcement professionals for years to come.
