New Community Library

The project: Located in the rapidly growing Raleigh suburb of Fuquay-Varina, this new 9,800-sf community library represents a forward-thinking investment in public infrastructure. More than just a place for books, the library was designed as a civic anchor, inviting year-round use through thoughtfully integrated indoor and outdoor gathering spaces.
The goal: The primary goal was to create a flexible, community-centered facility that meets the current needs of Fuquay-Varina’s residents while accommodating future growth. The design reflects a broader vision for public engagement, learning, and connection, serving as a dynamic resource for a growing population.
The design: The library is a single-story structure built with a structural steel framing system that supports a metal deck roof and a concrete slab-on-grade first floor. The building is sited to optimize daylighting and passive solar strategies, enhancing comfort and energy efficiency. Its linear form is intentionally planned to allow a seamless transition to an L-shaped configuration during a future expansion phase, ensuring long-term adaptability and continued service to the community.
The outcome: The result is a bright, inviting, and resilient public space that fosters learning, collaboration, and civic pride. With flexible spaces designed to evolve alongside the town it serves, the Fuquay-Varina Community Library is poised to become a central gathering place for generations to come.
