The new Terminal 1 at San Diego International Airport opened its first phase in November.

The $3.8 billion facility replaces the airport’s original 1967 terminal with a modern, sustainable facility designed for efficiency, comfort, and future growth.

The first phase includes 19 new gates, a ticketing hall with 69 check-in kiosks and 66 ticket counters, a 13-lane security checkpoint area, seven baggage carousels, 17 restaurants and retail stores, and an outdoor dining area overlooking San Diego Bay and downtown.

IMEG provided electrical engineering services as a subconsultant to Bergelectric, under the Turner-Flatiron Joint Venture with architect Gensler. IMEG’s scope included normal power and lighting, emergency generation, power, and lighting.

IMEG’s engineering supports advanced building systems that enhance passenger experience, energy performance, and operational reliability—contributing to the Airport Authority’s goal of a 100% carbon-free terminal pursuing LEED Gold certification, reflective of San Diego’s commitment to innovation and environmental stewardship.
