New School of Business
IMEG provided mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection engineering, as well as construction administration support for the 130,000-sf new Wayne and Kay Woosley Hall, the home of the W. Frank Barton School of Business at Wichita State University (WSU). The new building features a 300-seat auditorium, 150-seat multipurpose room, multiple classrooms, conference rooms, and offices, and large two-story atrium, and more.
The building was designed to meet LEED Silver certification but ended up exceeding its goals and achieving LEED Gold. The building is designed around a central atrium, seamlessly connecting learning, meeting, and workspaces for faculty. Co-locating faculty departments and administration fosters flexibility and collaboration across disciplines. Central gathering and meeting areas provide spaces for faculty to engage with both colleagues and students, while dedicated business centers accommodate institutes and industry partners working within the school.
Key engineering designs supporting the building include:
- Smoke evacuation system in the atrium
- Multiple variable volume air handling units
- DOAS units with total energy recovery wheels
- A new physical plant that includes systems for
- Smoke evacuation
- Heating water
- Chilled water
- Normal and emergency power
- Emergency generator
