New York City’s $1.4 billion project that integrates critical flood protection infrastructure with an expanded, highly accessible public waterfront has reached a key milestone.

The East Side Coastal Resiliency project has opened two new pedestrian bridges at Delancey Street and Corlears Hook, and the Solar One Environmental Education Centre, in East River Park. The education center is a resilient, solar-powered facility designed to support environmental education and community programming.

The initiative will safeguard approximately 110,000 New Yorkers from climate-driven flood risks while revitalizing Manhattan’s East Side waterfront from Montgomery Street to East 25th Street. Recently opened amenities south of the Williamsburg Bridge include elevated parkland, sports and recreation spaces, new plantings, and improved riverfront access, all built atop flood walls, berms, and swing gates designed to protect nearby neighborhoods and essential infrastructure.

FHI Studios, now IMEG is the project’s Transportation and Access Planning consultant.
