Senior Mechanical Engineer and Associate Principal Peter Ernzen, P.E., has been named to ENR Midwest’s 2027 Top Young Professionals class, which recognizes industry professionals under 40 who show leadership, career progress, experience and community involvement.

Based in the Des Moines office, Ernzen has led the office’s mechanical department and has served as operations manager since 2022, overseeing staffing, quality control, project delivery, and resource planning while continuing to lead complex engineering projects.

He also plays a leadership role on major projects, including a long-term campus infrastructure project for Northwest Missouri State University, where he serves as project manager and lead engineer. The multidisciplinary effort requires coordination across structural, civil, mechanical, electrical and architectural disciplines, as well as close collaboration with the client.

Ernzen has led technical training for junior engineers and IMEG’s India-based staff, supported Revit automation and workflow improvements, and mentors team members through regular career development conversations.

Outside of work, he is active with the ASHRAE Iowa Chapter, served on the USGBC Iowa board, and volunteered for nine years with ACE Mentoring of Central Iowa. He has also organized and taken part in volunteer efforts with Habitat for Humanity, Meals from the Heartland and Urbandale Uplift.
