Codesign of $5B pediatric campus featured in HFM
The fall issue of Health Facilities Management magazine features the Moody Children’s Hospital in Dallas, the nation’s largest greenfield pediatric campus project. Expected to open in 2031, the $5 billion, 552-bed hospital campus is a joint venture between Children’s Health and UT Southwestern Medical Center.
The HFM feature examines the codesign approach of the project and is written by Caitlin Potter of HKS and Vianey Romo, project manager at Children’s Health in Dallas.
“Like family-centered care, ‘codesign’ is a collaborative approach to healthcare design in which patients, their families and other stakeholders partner with architects and interior designers to create a healthcare physical environment together,” the authors write. “The goal is to create healthcare spaces that meet the needs of all users.”
The new hospital will transform healthcare for the most complex pediatric patients and serve as a collaborative center for innovation, academic research, training, and the advancement of lifesaving technologies.
To ensure this vision meets the needs of those it serves, the project team captured input from more than 1,000 participants to engage patients, their families, and healthcare staff as key stakeholders in the hospital’s design.
As a subconsultant to the design team partnership of HKS and Perkins & Will, IMEG’s Healthcare Information Technology (HIT) Advisory Services team led future-state visioning sessions with clinical, operations, and administrative stakeholders to help identify the HIT solutions for the new facility.
