Advanced Care Center
IMEG provided engineering design and services for Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center’s (AIMMC) new Center for Advanced Care. The center is connected to the existing hospital and houses the healthcare facility’s digestive disease institute, ambulatory surgery center, and cancer center. The addition creates an integrated platform where patients and physicians can more easily access care resources, including an innovative multi-disciplinary condominium clinic with flexible, universal exam and consult spaces.
IMEG provided MEP, fire protection, technology, and security design, along with lighting, medical equipment planning, and construction administration services for the facility, which achieved LEED Silver certification. An integrated project delivery model, lean construction principles, and total building commissioning were employed on the project.
This nearly all LED project employed sustainability and comfort as its guiding principles both inside and out. Exterior light trespass, energy, and uplighting has been significantly minimized through careful luminaire selection and innovative design solutions. Within the interior, passive daylighting is a strong feature and through the utilization of an advanced control system, energy has been dramatically reduced while a connection to nature is maintained. In total, the lighting is more than 45% below energy code. Additionally, the lighting has been designed around the concept of wayfinding; lines of light accentuate architectural elements while subtly directing visitors to destination points. Through luminaire selection, design techniques, and controls application the lighting provides a functional space for the staff, an environmentally friendly building for the owner, and a welcoming space for all.
