Sesame Seed Facility
IMEG was selected to provide Process, Mechanical, Electrical and Structural engineering services for a sesame seed facility expansion at Sesaco’s Hobart, Oklahoma operation.
The expansion project included a receiving building addition, additional bulk storage, processing equipment additions and renovations, new dust collection systems, mechanical conveyance equipment and a new compressed air system.
IMEG design services included facility layout and equipment arrangement, along with process flow documentation. Enclosed tubular drag conveyors were chosen as the preferred method of mechanical conveyance due to the high concentration of oil in the seed which deteriorates rubber belting. IMEG coordinated equipment arrangement with equipment suppliers for a complete material handling system. New dust collection systems were designed to meet the requirements of new processing equipment. Structural design services were also provided for equipment support structures, concrete, and general structural framing. Complete electrical and process control design services were also provided for the facility expansion.
Additionally, IMEG assisted the client during the bidding phase to evaluate multiple equipment vendors as well as general contractors. Support services continued throughout project construction. The project was completed in phases with the first systems in operation the fall of 2015 and the remaining in the spring of 2016.
