IMEG design helps charge Iowa’s first all-electric buses
Seven new all-electric buses – Iowa’s first – were recently added to the fleet of the Des Moines Area Regional Transit Authority (DART). The zero-emission buses are gas-free and run on batteries powered by renewable energy.
IMEG provided electrical and structural design for the infrastructure (added to an existing building) that supports the seven electric bus chargers, each of which weigh more than 1 ton each.
The buses are part of a pilot project to test how the zero-emission vehicles will operate in Greater Des Moines. The project was funded through a partnership with MidAmerican Energy Company, which provided the local match for DART’s Low- or No-Emission grant application with the Federal Transit Administration.
