Historic courthouse renovation rounds out CityArchRiver project
The final piece of the $380 million CityArchRiver project is officially underway. On Jan. 31, IMEG engineers attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the landmark renovation of the Old Courthouse, which sits just west of the Gateway Arch in downtown St. Louis. Construction is expected to be completed in 2023 or 2024.
IMEG is providing mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and technology engineering design and services for the project, which is only the second major renovation in the building’s nearly 200-year history. The renovation of the four main exhibit gallery spaces and addition of a new heating and cooling system and elevator will be carefully designed to avoid damaging the historic structure.
The updated gallery spaces will include interactive and multimedia features that highlight St. Louis’s historic civil rights cases as well as the original architectural features completed in 1828.
