ER Expansion and New Perioperative Unit
IMEG provided mechanical and plumbing engineering services for expansion of Kaiser Permanente Woodland Hills’ emergency department, remodel of the urgent care center, construction of a new perioperative unit (including OR suites and a PACU unit) and a new sterile processing department. Enhancements to the exterior of the building are also included in the project scope. The new perioperative department will accommodate three inpatient ORs with adjacent shelled-space built-out with support functions (PACU, pre-op, etc.)
Various options for the mechanical systems were evaluated for the specific needs of each department, as well as considerations for the Medical Center’s requirements and site conditions. Life-cycle-cost-analyses were applied to determine the proposed mechanical systems. The mechanical systems will incorporate sustainable design features and best design practices and will be in accordance with required codes and standards. The new mechanical systems will seamlessly integrate with the existing campus Building Management System (BMS).
A detailed phasing plan was developed to ensure minimal disruption to hospital services during the project.
