New West County Hospital
The project: A new replacement hospital for BJC West County Hospital. The facility replaced the existing 77-bed general medical and surgical hospital. The new six-story hospital includes 64 private patient rooms, four intensive care rooms, and 14 operating rooms, as well as an adjoining medical office building, parking garage, and space for 32 patient rooms and two ORs to be added in the future.
The goal: Replace the existing 50-year old facility with a flexible, efficient, and technologically advanced hospital.
Project approach: IMEG worked closely with the design team and hospital leadership and team members to design a modern patient-care environment that supports the needs of patients and clinicians. The 31-acre campus was redeveloped in several phases, with plans also calling for four new medical office buildings sized from 75,000 to 100,000 square feet. Just more than 200,000 square feet of additional future development would bring the total to 1 million square feet. An 875-space parking garage is also planned; surface parking will replace the current hospital site, with a total 2,640 spaces planned.
The outcome: The facility, which houses a Siteman Cancer Center, the only National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center within 240 miles of St. Louis, is designed to incorporate advance approaches to patient care.
