McLaren Northern Michigan is a 202-bed, full-service, acute care facility in Petoskey, MI. This project focused on providing an enhanced environment to support the hospital’s top specialties, particularly in cardiology. The 186,000-sf South Tower addition includes 92 new private patient rooms, 10 new operating rooms (including two heart ORs and one hybrid vascular OR), new central sterile processing department, 24-bed ICU, 40-bed CVU/Obs unit, 40-bed Med/Surg/Obs unit, five endoscopy suites, PACU, prep/recovery, clinical lab, and inpatient pharmacy. Additionally, a 69,000-sf renovation of the heart center upgrades the hospital’s interventional cardiology program with the expansion of an existing cath lab and the addition of a dedicated cath/EP lab.

IMEG provided medical equipment planning services for the addition and renovation, which serves the local patients and the influx of tourists who visit in the summer months. The design featured ceiling-mounted booms and fully integrated video and image routing technology to improve equipment management in the 10 new operating rooms. Additionally, the new central sterile department has the capacity to serve the volume created by the expanded surgical program and is conveniently located adjacent to the surgical suite.
