The American Public Transportation Association recognized Akron METRO as an Outstanding Public Transportation System (3 million, but fewer than 15 million annual passenger trips category) noting its “exceptional community leadership, pioneering service redesign, and unwavering commitment to empowerment and innovation.”  

Akron METRO launched Reimagine Network, the service redesign, in June 2023. After public meetings, fixed-route services were changed to expand regional access; buses run more often in key corridors; and routes were enhanced to improve connections to jobs, healthcare, and education. 

As part of the redesign, Akron METRO is building a new bus maintenance and operations facility. IMEG is providing mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection engineering design services, and security and telecom technology services for the project. It is scheduled to open in late 2025.
