IMEG has completed the asset acquisition of the majority of CFR Engineering, a Maryland-based engineering firm recognized for its extensive work supporting federal agencies and mission-critical facilities. This transaction strengthens IMEG’s eastern U.S. presence while expanding its federal, science and technology, and secure facilities capabilities.

Founded in 2006 and headquartered in Germantown, MD, CFR Engineering is a full-service MEP/FP firm with deep expertise in the planning and design of complex research, laboratory, healthcare, and highly regulated environments. The firm has delivered more than 2,000 projects for federal and private-sector clients, supporting both modernization and new construction efforts that require rigorous technical performance, reliability, and regulatory compliance.

“This transaction strengthens IMEG’s presence in the eastern region while significantly broadening our specialized expertise in complex and highly technical facilities,” said Paul VanDuyne, President/CEO of IMEG. “By aligning complementary capabilities and a shared commitment to client-focused service, we are expanding our capacity to support complex, mission-driven projects while preserving the specialized structures required to serve federal clients.”

As part of the transaction, CFR’s Vice President, Jason Sambolt, will assume the role of client executive with IMEG, providing strategic leadership and continuing to drive day-to-day team operations. IMEG has acquired the majority of CFR assets and such projects will be integrated into its national platform while continuing to operate with strong local leadership and client focus. The Germantown office will remain in place, with team members continuing to serve clients from that location.

CFR Engineering will also operate as an independent, standalone business to support a handful of existing federal projects, ensuring uninterrupted service to clients and continuity for active work. CFR will remain under the continued leadership of Jeff Ford and Rich Cornwell, maintaining the trusted relationships and technical expertise that have defined the firm’s federal practice. Ford and Cornwell also will serve as strategic consultants to IMEG, supporting client development and growth initiatives within the federal and science and technology sectors.

“This transaction allows us to continue serving our federal clients without disruption while gaining access to IMEG’s broader technical depth and national resources,” said Cornwell, President of CFR Engineering. “IMEG’s culture and values align closely with our own, making this a strong strategic fit. This asset acquisition creates new opportunities for our team and enhances our ability to deliver value to clients while preserving the independence required for our federal work.”
