A recent blog by Gensler discussed ways architects are reimagining shelter for people experiencing homelessness.

They featured North Side Housing and Supportive Services, a men’s transitional shelter that opened in Chicago in December 2024, providing 70 beds.

North Side Housing and Supportive Services used to be a medical office building. The 10,000-sf building now includes 35 double-occupancy sleeping rooms, commercial kitchen, community room, offices, shower room, shared toilet room, laundry room, and support functions.

IMEG provided mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection engineering design services, along with Wi-Fi predictive modeling for the project.
