Chronicle Mill named NAHB’s Multifamily Community of the Year for Adaptive Reuse
The National Association of Home Builders has named Chronicle Mill in Belmont, NC., its 2023 Multifamily Community of the Year, in the Adaptive Reuse category, and Best in Region for the Middle Atlantic region.
Chronicle Mill was constructed as Belmont’s first textile mill in 1901. By 2010, it was an abandoned, decaying eyesore sitting downtown. Construction and renovation on the property began in 2021.
The adaptive reuse preserved some sections of the existing facade, and a fourth floor was added. The complex added 238 apartments and food and beverage, retail, and outdoor amenity space to downtown Belmont.
The NAHB judges called it a “remarkable recovery.”
IMEG provided mechanical and fire protection engineering design services as a subconsultant to BB+M Architecture.
