IMEG-designed fire station wins F.I.E.R.O. Design Merit Award
The Fire Department of New York (FDNY) Engine Company 224 received a 2024 Fire Station Design Merit Award from the Fire Industry Education Resource Organization (F.I.E.R.O.).
IMEG provided mechanical and electrical design for the rehabilitation and modernization of the historic, landmark fire station in Brooklyn, NY. The project addressed and updated the station’s cramped spaces, inadequate natural light, the risk of vehicle exhaust contaminating living areas, and operational inefficiencies.
In addition to incorporating modern technology and structural integrity upgrades, the design addressed the lack of basic facilities for female firefighters and disabled visitors by adding a separate women’s bathroom and locker room suite and first-floor accessible bathroom.
