The City of Johnston’s new Town Center and City Hall has won an Engineering News-Record Midwest 2022 Best Project award in the government/public building category.  

IMEG provided mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, technology, and security engineering design services and construction administration for the $9.3 million, 24,000-sf city hall. The facility is the centerpiece of a town center redevelopment project that brings new civic, retail, hospitality, office, and entertainment opportunities to the area.  

The project will now go on to compete against other regional government/public building category winners for the title of ENR National Best of the Best Project.

Best Project, Healthcare

Children’s Hospital & Medical Center Hubbard Center in Omaha has won the ENR Midwest 2022 Best Project award in the healthcare category.  

IMEG provided medical equipment planning for the hospital’s 460,000-sf, seven-story tower addition. The tower houses a 48-bed NICU with all private rooms, 30-bed PICU, 30-bed CCU, observation unit, pharmacy, surgical suite, diagnostic imaging, expanded emergency department, and sterile processing.

Best Project, Cultural/Worship

The Pepper Family Wildlife Center at Lincoln Park Zoo won an ENR Midwest 2022 Best Project Award in the cultural/worship category.

IMEG provided commissioning services for the renovation of the lion house at the Lincoln Park Zoo – a historic building that originally opened in 1912. The project included renovations to the existing 35,000-sf lion house to create a new state-of-the-art habitat for animal welfare and immersive viewing opportunities for guests. The project was designed by Goettsch Partners and constructed by Pepper Construction.

Award of Merit, Healthcare 

The McLaren Greater Lansing Healthcare Campus received an ENR Midwest 2022 Best Project Award of Merit in the healthcare category.  

IMEG provided medical equipment planning for the $460 million consolidation of two hospitals into a new 520,000-sf, 240-bed tertiary teaching hospital on the edge of the Michigan State University campus in Lansing, MI. The facility has a Level III emergency department, orthopedic and sports medicine institute, cardiac programs, women and children’s health services, and a birthing center.

Award of Merit, Healthcare 

The renovation of a historic department store in downtown Peoria, IL, into OSF Healthcare’s headquarters received an ENR Midwest 2022 Best Project Award of Merit in the healthcare category.

IMEG provided mechanical and electrical engineering design services for the $135 million renovation of the 225,000-sf Block & Kuhl building, built in 1904, into the OSF Healthcare Ministry headquarters. Its owner, Sisters of the Third Order of St. Francis – the city’s largest employer — sees the renovation as an investment in the revitalization of downtown Peoria.

Award of Merit, Higher Education/Research 

The renovation of the iconic Pillsbury Hall at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis received an ENR Midwest 2022 Best Project Award of Merit in the higher education/research category.  

IMEG provided mechanical engineering and design services for the renovation of the 62,500-sf building, originally constructed in 1889 as a science hall. In June 2021, the building reopened after a $36 million renovation as a home for the Department of English, its creative writing Program, and the Liberal Arts Engagement Hub with contemporary learning environments, non-laboratory research, and space for collaboration.
