Waunakee Public Library held its grand opening Aug. 1, 2019, to celebrate the completion of the 39,500-sf project. IMEG partnered with OPN Architects to provide structural, MEP, fire protection, and technology design for the library, which features two wings — one housing the main collection area and the other hosting community events.

The library also includes a living room, community board room, coffee bar, history hall, children’s section with an interactive area for learning through play, and a technology hub for teens. The facility – located on a former brownfield site – features a green roof, solar panels, and daylighting. A community park with a bike path and pedestrian bridge connects the library site to downtown.

The library was selected as the In Business Madison 2020 Commercial Design Awards Project of the Year, Best New Development or Renovation – Education, and also received the AIA Wisconsin 2022 Design Awards Merit Award.
