The $57.1 million Meat Science and Animal Biologics Discovery building at UW-Madison opened in 2020. IMEG provided mechanical and technology engineering and design services for the 67,540-sf building, which will provide students with hands-on training and experience in meat processing.

The facility includes a USDA-certified meat and poultry processing plant, BSL-2 laboratories, offices, conference room, and teaching spaces. Two classroom auditoriums feature refrigerated labs separated from the viewing area by large glass panels and equipped with live audio and video feeds. The facility also houses Bucky’s Varsity Meats, a retail shop where products processed at the facility are sold.

The project was named among The Daily Reporter Top Projects in 2021.
