IMEG provided structural engineering design and services for The Legacy, a rehabilitated 1890s office and bank building in Bay City, MI, and winner of a Michigan Historic Preservation Network (MHPN) 2020 Building Award. It also won the 2022 Governor’s Award for Historic Preservation.

The former Crapo building underwent several transformations since 1921. The renovation removed a midcentry modern facade added in 1960 was restored the original facade. The work also renovated the building to include a mix of uses including retail space, a restaurant, and 26 residential units. 

The MHPN Building Award is given to an outstanding building preservation project that features exterior rehabilitation work and will be presented at MHPN’s 40th Annual Conference on September 21. The Governor’s Awards for Historic Preservation recognize standout projects across both peninsulas, exemplifying the collaboration and deep impact preservation can have in Michigan communities.
