The Army National Guard Readiness Center and Army Aviation Support Facility in Kankakee, Ill., was selected as ENR’s Best of the Best Projects in the Government/Public Building category for 2018. The project was first chosen as an ENR Midwest 2018 Best Project in the same category before advancing to the national competition.

IMEG provided MEP, fire protection and technology design, as well as construction administration services for the $64.6 million, LEED Silver facility, which is designed to provide versatility for the various needs of more than 200 soldiers, approximately 40 full-time employees, and 10 UH-60 Blackhawk helicopters. The 73,000-sf Readiness Center includes flexible classrooms and conference rooms, offices, ground equipment maintenance, a weapons simulator, flight simulators, vaults and a medical clinic. The 112,000-sf Army Aviation Support Facility (AASF) supports three units of the National Guard: the 935th, B016 and Medivac. The facility includes maintenance hangars, shops, flight facilities, fuel distribution, a state-of-the-art fire suppression system and a cold storage hangar.

IMEG worked with architectural firm Bailey Edward and George Sollitt Construction Company on the project for the Illinois Department of Military Affairs.

The Army National Guard Readiness Center and AASF will be featured in ENR’s March issue. Read IMEG’s case study here.
