IMEG provided design for energy-efficient animal control and care facility

IMEG provided engineering design and services for a new 21,850-sf animal control and care facility in Des Moines that opened in January 2024, and replaces the city’s outdated and undersized building and meets their energy efficiency goals.
The Des Moines Animal Services building houses a reception area, administration spaces, veterinary clinic and surgery area, kennels, treatment and support spaces, and public education spaces – all designed to meet Association of Shelter Veterinarians (ASV) guidelines and regulations.
The design includes primary heating and cooling systems sourced by electric utilities, a 145-ton geothermal system, and an adjacent photovoltaic array that provides electricity for the facility and several other municipal buildings designed by IMEG. The project is pursing LEED Gold certification.
