Long-anticipated Potomac Yard-VT Metrorail Station now open
The Potomac Yard-VT Metrorail Station opened Friday, May 19, with the Yellow Line train making its inaugural stop at 5:08 a.m. The infill station, proposed more than 40 years ago, is located between the Braddock Road and Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport Stations and is less than 15 minutes from the nation’s capital.
The Metro station is part of a larger development that will include a new Virginia Tech Innovation Campus and mixed-use retail and apartment buildings and is expected to add new residents and jobs to the area.
christopher consultants, now IMEG, developed plans for the parcels in and around the station, including the infrastructure plans, development blocks, North Potomac Yard Park, and the Interim Metro Plaza Park. The infrastructure plan was under construction at the same time as the Metro station, so christopher consultants, now IMEG, coordinated construction work with the station’s contractors.
