Muscatine is getting Iowa’s first 3D printed homes
Muscatine, Iowa, will soon have the state’s first 3D-printed homes.
Alquist 3D is using a RIC Tech printer and a 3D printable concrete product called “crete” to build the walls of a 1,400-sf home. It’s a three-bedroom, two-bath structure created in computer-aided design software. The 3D printing takes up to four weeks. Plumbing and electrical and finish work are done by traditional construction methods and finished in about 10 weeks.
The company plans to build 10 homes in the city, in partnership with Community Foundation of Greater Muscatine.
IMEG provided civil engineering construction material testing for the project.
