New Rockford Public Library wins ACEC Illinois, AIA Prairie Chapter awards

IMEG’s design of the new Rockford Public Library in Rockford, IL, has won an ACEC Illinois 2025 Engineering Excellence Honor Award and the Judges Choice Award. The Honor Award recognizes projects for their exceptional engineering, meeting the needs of the client, and benefitting public welfare. The Rockford Public Library was one of two projects that received the Judges Choice Award.
IMEG provided structural, mechanical, electrical, and technology design as well as commissioning services for the new library, which features a cantilever system, underground parking, enhanced technology, and various event and gathering spaces.
The library was built on a former gasification site that had contaminated soil and required careful integration of temporary earth retention systems and temporary dewatering and ground plugs.
The project received the Judges Choice Award at the gala in February and was also recently awarded the 2024 Citation of Merit for Architecture Design from the AIA Prairie Chapter. Read the IMEG case study to learn more about the project.
