Old Courthouse museum in St. Louis reopens after extensive renovation

The historic Old Courthouse in St. Louis has reopened after a $25 million renovation.
The 19th-century courthouse sits at one end of the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial grounds, which recently underwent a major, multi-year renovation through the Gateway Arch Park Foundation.
IMEG provided structural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing engineering design services and technology services for the 87,000-sf courthouse project. The primary goal was to improve accessibility and life safety systems, and other infrastructure and system improvements, following National Park Service historic preservation and sustainability requirements.
Electrical engineering services included designing new lighting systems that balanced energy efficiency with historic preservation requirements, coordinating power for exhibit renovations, upgrading voice/data infrastructure to support modern operations, and specifying a new backup generator to enhance building resilience.
Mechanical engineering services included designing energy-efficient mechanical systems, improved ventilation, and new fire protection.
The Old Courthouse renovation is the final piece of the $380 million CityArchRiver project, which included a new museum beneath the Gateway Arch. IMEG provided mechanical, electrical, and technology engineering for that project, a LEED Gold, $108.9 million renovation and expansion of the museum. Read more about the project here.
