Paul Clinton to share ‘Untold Story’ of the South Dakota rest area pollinator project

IMEG Project Landscape Architect Paul Clinton, PLA, will share little known stories about the South Dakota Department of Transportation’s I-29 rest area pollinator habitat project at the 2025 American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) Nebraska Dakotas Fall conference in Fargo, ND.
He will present “The Untold Story of the Five Pollinator Plot on Interstate 29,” on Friday, Sept. 12 at 3:30 p.m.
Clinton has played a leading role in developing and monitoring Pollinator Habitat Plots for South Dakota Department of Transportation (SDDOT) rest areas. Located along the I-29 corridor in Eastern South Dakota, these pollinator plots create and expand habitat for monarch butterflies and other pollinator species. In this presentation, Paul will discuss the challenges of developing and implementing successful management strategies at the five rest areas. These strategies required a balance of available tools and techniques to provide the least damaging approach to site maintenance while protecting the pollinator insect species and effectively controlling invasive and noxious weeds. This initiative not only supports biodiversity but also improves water infiltration into the soil and strengthens the resilience and sustainability of South Dakota’s prairie landscape.
At IMEG, Clinton is involved in all aspects of landscape design and construction, including project management. He is experienced in site plans, landscape design, permitting, environmental assessments, natural resources, native planting, bank stabilization, landscape management, the construction and maintenance of wetlands.
