IMEG, formerly Rushing, provided mechanical, plumbing, electrical, and fire protection system engineering design services, and lighting design, for the Downtown Redmond Link Extension in Redmond, Washington.

The 2 Line guideway was extended 3.4 miles from Redmond Technology Station to Downtown Redmond. Two new light rail stations were added in Downtown Redmond and near Marymoor Park — along with a new 1,400-spot parking garage in downtown Redmond.

IMEG, formerly Rushing, carefully coordinated with SWK, Jacobs, and the owner, Sound Transit, and other design teams, to develop creative solutions for an attractive, sustainable, and highly functional link extension.

Our team’s design included:

  • Fire protection system along the guideway, in the stations, and parking garage
  • Electrical systems for the stations, garage, and for the Track Traction Power Substations (TPSS) along the route
  • Station and garage lighting
  • Plumbing for the stations
  • Mechanical for the stations
  • Low voltage systems

The extension is expected to serve 43,000 to 52,000 daily riders by 2026. It is part of a voter-approved Sound Transit system expansion, which will add 94 miles of all-electric light rail service throughout the region.

A grand opening event will be held May 10, 2025, with activities, food and entertainment. Learn more.
