The expansion of Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center, Iowa, is underway. The $29.4 million project will add a new 24,000-sf surgical center, add lab space, and improve the facilities for the radiology and imaging departments.

Structural steel is going into place, and the center is expected to be completed in the fall of 2023.

Hospital officials say steady growth in the number of surgeons and types of procedures mean the current facilities — built in the 1950s — can’t keep up with demand. The renovation will also include a room for diagnostic exams and the replacement of a portable MRI machine with a permanent one.

IMEG is providing structural engineering design services for the project.
