Thunder Vista P-8 now CHPS Verified School
IMEG provided engineering design and services for the new Thunder Vista P-8 school in Broomfield, CO. Thunder Vista is officially certified as a Collaborative for High Performance Schools (CHPS) Verified School and was designed to be energy efficient with a small environmental footprint.
IMEG provided mechanical, electrical, and plumbing design services for the school as well as initial energy services for the development of the high-performance design concepts. The design included 72 geothermal heating and cooling wells to provide higher-efficiency heating, cooling, and hot water delivery in the building. Thunder Vista is Adams 12 Five Star School District’s most energy-efficient building with an energy use intensity of 18.9 kBtu/sf, compared to 69.0 for average schools in the district.
CHPS standards impact the design, construction, and operation of schools to protect student and staff health, enhance learning environments, conserve natural resources, and reduce waste and impact to the environment.
